Red Barn

I have been staring at this screen for 30 minutes. I have written a bunch of sentences and deleted them. I’m tired today. I’m giving myself a break.

I want to share this photo I took the other day from the end of my driveway. That red barn has horse stalls in it. The wood that makes up the stalls is worn down smooth from years and years of horses rubbing their bodies against it. I don’t know when the barn was built, but the original house for the farm was built in 1790. This street we live on is one of the oldest streets in our town. Just a mile down the road sits a little chapel. It was built because it was too hard for the people that lived here to travel into town for Sunday service. Sometimes, when I’m driving down our road, I imagine what it might have been like with just those few old farmhouses back in the 1800’s. I filter out the newer houses and pretend the road is dirt, not paved. I drive by stone walls and stone hitching posts. I notice the corner with a little dip in the road and think to myself, that must’ve been hard to navigate with a horse and buggy. I look deep into the woods and see the stone walls going as far as I can see- this was once all fields, not woods. I really like where I live.

(And hey, I wrote something. I wasn’t expecting that!)

Thanks for reading today’s entry in my daily blog. My goal here is to practice noticing. I try to write about small things and I try to keep it light. Sometimes I write about creativity or healing. And sometimes I write about my dogs or what I cooked for dinner. Writing daily here is a way for me to shine a light back on my life and help me see.
