Back in the Saddle

Driving down our street right now is like being in an old school video game. It’s the squirrels. I’m not sure why they are so active this time of year, but man, they will dart right out in front of you so quickly. They run out to the middle of the road, stop, go back a little, go forward a little, then make a final decision if they will attempt the entire crossing. Sometimes, there is no way to avoid them. That happened once last week. I was sad.

Last night we had a large lightening storm come through. There was one strike very close by. I had gone to bed early and was reading a book. About fifteen minutes later I heard a siren and pulled the shade back, flashing lights everywhere. The strike had started a fire in our neighbors storage container. Luckily, no one was hurt.

I just went back and looked at my calendar and it’s been 11 days since I last posted here. I am so glad I took this break. I can see now why the posting had become hard. So I’m shifting some things to help keep things light and airy. I would love to post every day. That’s the goal. But if I don’t, that’s okay too. Hey, maybe I’ll go crazy and post twice in one day sometimes. You never know! But that’s what this blog has to feel like for me — no pressure, no expectations. Just my creative expression.

I read this today:
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don’t hesitate. Give into it. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happened better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, but very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
-Mary Oliver

Thanks for reading today’s entry in my daily blog. My goal here is to practice noticing. I try to write about small things and I try to keep it light. Sometimes I write about creativity or healing. And sometimes I write about my dogs or what I cooked for dinner. Writing daily here is a way for me to shine a light back on my life and help me see.
